10 week internship

As a design intern these past two summers at Lift Arc Studios, I transitioned from being a team player to a team member. I learned how to use CAD models to create estimates, as well as the ins and outs of small business work. This summer, I was able to create my own designs, work one-on-one with customers, and see the production process from the ground up.

Food Hut Skateboard Racks

The owner of Food Hut came to Lift Arc this summer asking for custom skateboard racks. Wanting to show off the entire back of the board, I designed this rack that could be plasma cut from scrap steel with simple welds.

Custom Desk

At the end of the summer, I designed a custom desk that would fit in my apartment and demonstrate my knowledge of the material. I also wanted to play a part in the construction of the desk: I helped cut, weld, and paint. The desk is constructed out of 2x2 square tubing with a sheet of brushed aluminum riveted to the frame below.

Roanoke Star Shelf

In a couple of days, I was tasked to design a wall decoration that could be easily plasma cut out of scrap 1/4” steel. I decided to take inspiration from the Roanoke Star and create this simple, geometric shelf for keys or a small plant. Hooks could also be welded onto the bottom of the shelf to hang your coats or hats on.
